Autumn… Metal Element, Breath in and Out! Let Go

Metal embodies structure, boundaries, and clarity. Our strong immunity depends on the metal element, creating clearing boundaries and our ability to “let go”; to let go of grief, waste, attachments. Balance grief with acceptance, eat moistening foods, warm teas and avoid spicy foods, and dry baked or fried foods now. To balance the metal element, which is associated with the Lungs and Large Intestine, you should practice deep breathing and mind-body movement like Yoga, Qi Gong, or Tai Ji. Gentle brushing and self massage, and rhythmic exercise. Decluttering your physical space can also bring mental clarity, as can a daily writing practice to clear your mind. In terms of diet, white foods like pears, onions, garlic, and daikon radish are often recommended, and embracing a healthy process of letting go is essential for emotional balance.

Make a routine that focuses on rhythm, breath, clarity and letting go–all qualities of the metal element.
