Ever wonder why the holidays can become stressful, trying times? In
feng shui, it's because we change our environments so dramatically that the five
elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water become totally out of balance. If
you add a lot of fire elements such as lights, candles, red shades from pink to
burgundy and gold tones, be ready for some added passion, socializing, sex, impatience,
impulsiveness, criticism, heated discussions and generally feeling burnt out.
Be sure to extinguish some of the flame by adding water elements such
as asymmetrical, free-flowing decorations and wrapping paper. Also include lots
of shiny, reflective decorations including mirrors, glass and crystal. Adding
dark colors like black, navy and brown to your attire will also douse the flames.
Try a soothing bath and double your usual water intake. The water element is also
represented by music, so don't forget to listen to your favorite music as much
as possible. During the holidays, we also increase the earth element by
cooking for people, decorating and cleaning up for company, doing things for others
and following traditions. An increase in earth tends to make you gain weight and
feel sluggish. Cut down on the earth element by avoiding earth tones in your wardrobe
and eating out more often. We also can overload on the wood element due
to the added green, greenery, fruits, flowers, boxes and wrapping paper. The result
is increased stress, feeling overwhelmed and irritation. To cut down the
wood, add the metal element. This can include adding pastels to your holiday color
palette, including your clothing. Have a lot of round, oval or arched decorations
and bring out anything metal. Even though lights symbolize fire, using white ones
(symbolizing metal) will diminish their power. Also, enjoy reading a bit more
or doing crossword puzzles. This is also an excellent time to organize your taxes
- all metal pursuits. Balance the elements and enjoy the season. Copyright
