On
Friday, September 28, 2007 Conscious Design Magazine hosted the Every Man's Home
Is
His Castle benefit dinner in support of Morris Habitat for Humanity. The evening
boasted a silent auction, money raffle, presentations from Morris Habitat
for Humanity, and castle fare. The keynote speaker for the evening was William
Spear.Cindy Flanagan, who manages the
office for Morris Habitat in Mine Hill,
said "Everyone was so incredibly generous, and Bill Spear was amazing! We
are so gratefu lfor the chance to express the importance of building affordable
housing. The conference was a real learning experience for us as well." Of
the conference, she said, "We were under the impression that in order to
build a green home, one would have to spend a lot
more money. We learned that
this is not true. In fact, our next project is a home that we are determined to
build as green as we can.
We are so grateful to Renae Jensen, Deana Schimmenti,
Mary Adelman, and Pati Uzar
for putting this benefit together and including
us in a great event." Morris Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers
and people that care enough to donate their time and services. Their
ReStore
re-uses, re-cycles, and re-sells functional building materials and tools thereby
diverting thousands of tons of usable materials from local landfills. They accept
new or slightly used building materials, furniture and appliances in good working
order.
Morris Habitat for Humanity and it's
ReStore are located at
102 Iron Mountain
Road, Mine Hill, New Jersey 07803.
