Among these are the high frequency
electromagnetic waves which are beyond our ability to evaluate and measure and
which have been penetrating our civilization for only some decades. These forces
are emanating from radio and TV transmitters, radar installations, radio and TV
relay systems, amateur radio facilities, microwave units and earth satellites. No
other single artificial environmental factor has stranger offshoots that this
electrification of our living space. Artificial
microwave "smog" coming from more than 10,000 satellites, thousands
of radio relay arrays and radar installations, millions of transmitters and receivers
are inserting immense electromagnetic radiation all over the globe. The
time has passed when we were still able to measure the "natural" microwave
radiation in our atmosphere. It is now no longer possible to establish "a
normal" level of worldwide natural radiation. The injection into our society
of these thousands of technical microwave generators has no doubt caused the present
condition to be billions of times greater than it was prior to 1900, a time when
the sky existed without any artificial electromagnetic penetrations. It
would be naïve to assume that the organic process of life will adjust itself
to these artificial and much stronger influences without the creation of any problems.
Indeed we do not taste anything new, do not hear anything different, nor do we
feel anything from these new conditions. That would be demanding too much. These
new technical beams, having not existed in the early part of our evolution, are
so recent that nature, taken by this quick surprise, has no natural sensors, mechanisms
of resistance, nor available mental understanding of these new forces. Let
us change, what we can change. TV
towers, radar stations, military intelligence installations and telecommunication
radio relay facilities, satellites and mobile telephones, with their typical high
frequency electromagnetic fields, cannot be easily removed from our civilization. Nor
can cars, concrete, smoking chimneys, garbage incinerators, polluted rivers and
lakes, low level flying ozone (too little at the top, too much at the bottom)
be removed. With this in
mind we would prefer to speak about what we really can change - if we want to
change it. There are many electric, magnetic, radioactive and geologic disturbances
at our homes and work places that are within our control. These items generate
especially large and often totally unnecessary risks. They can be identified and
controlled. We can and should live our lives without risks.
