The Feng Shui Pizza Connection
By
Mary Roberts
Mamma mia! What can college students learn about feng shui from pizza?
Mary Roberts, author and founder of Successful Student Environments, takes you on a Mystical Pizza tour. By taking a glimpse into her e-book, The Mystical Pizza: Use the Super Knowledge of Feng Shui to Make Your College Space Work for You, you'll see the feng shui - pizza connection.
The 12- part E-kit (available for download at www.successfulstudentenvironments.com ) culminates a seven-year college speaking tour, hundreds of consultations with students in their campus housing, and five years of writing about the knowledge that empowers students to create environments for success at college.
The Feng Shui-Pizza Connection
The idea for the pizza theme came to me in a meditation and stayed alive in my mind as a useful teaching resource. College students understand pizza, but they don't know much about feng shui. I decided that by explaining feng shui to students in pizza terms, they would better understand it.
n a quest to learn more about pizza, I found the book, Pizza: A Global History by Carol Helstosky. Mamma mia! This little gem was bursting with everything I needed to know to make the feng shui-pizza connection and make the feng shui e-kit even more relevant to college students.
College students recognize the value in pizza, both as an inexpensive and a nourishing food source. Often low on cash, they can apply feng shui principles to nourish their humble living quarters, using a combination of the items they already have.
As a folk cuisine in which "a few ingredients were skillfully blended to create a variety of tastes," the method of creating a pizza inspires students to follow a simple recipe of bringing a small number of carefully chosen items to campus rooms in order to get the best results.

Why Design Matters: Harmony and Happiness in Your Space
By
Stephanie Saline
What's your favorite room in your home?
And more importantly, do you know why it's your favorite?
Most people overlook the power that design plays in our lives. I don't mean to be overly dramatic here, but really, we live our lives in rooms, buildings, and spaces that have been created for us - either by nature or other people.
And, when you really stop to think about it, the way those rooms, buildings, and spaces have been designed effect whether we move quickly or stop and linger - whether we feel lethargic or energized - whether our friends and guests feel uncomfortable and awkward or relaxed and welcome.
Think of a crosswalk. It lets pedestrians and cars know exactly where to cross, and when. At a busy intersection, the flow of people is a beautiful thing to see. Like a river. Or, from the perspective of feng shui, like chi itself.

Special Offerings
Flying Star Course - Complimentary
By
Jami Lin
If you ever wanted to learn the most valuable aspects of REAL Feng Shui and to get RESULTS THIS MINUTE, now is the TIME.
Why am I offering this complimentary 9-lesson Flying Star course and access to Personalized Monthly and Daily Success Maps?
No time is better than now for people to benefit through our service. It is in my opinion, trust in Feng Shui and (let's get real) our business has declined because (I believe that) most of what is being practiced does not provide consistent results. Clients aren't being educated that their Feng Shui, as with everything in life, is always changing.
I can't help but wonder, what is our professional responsibility? How do we strive for personal excellence and serve through example? Do we stop learning?
With almost 25 years of Feng Shui experience, I've practiced "popularized Feng Shui" but I am a convert. The classical traditions survived for 5,000 years because they are true models of nature's perfection. These consistent rhythms (and their mathematical formulas) of Heaven and Earth apply the Lo Shu square (or the REAL Bagua) on environment.
How can Feng Shui not consider the facing direction of a house when a sunrise (facing east) clearly feels very different than a sunset (facing west)? Why do we "Western practitioners" dismiss our indigenous Native Americans who honored the differences of directional energy and knew it to be sacred?
Through the I-Ching (the Feng Shui "Bible:" The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth), the major tenants of Feng Shui are the balance of Yin and Yang. Every Trigram combines the energies of Earth, Man, and Heaven. Both good and bad (Yin and Yang) Heaven Energy is always present, ever changing, and influencing the occupants (Man) in every environment (Earth).

Xeriscape Your Landscape
The term Xeriscaping identifies a type of landscape design that reduces or eliminates the need for additional irrigation. It is very popular in areas that are dry and do not do not have abundant or readily available supplies of fresh water. The term itself relates to the Greek work Xeros ( dry ) landscape.
Xeriscape design is low maintenance, low cost, and saves natural resources. This drought tolerant design strategy can be both beautiful and practical. It emphasizes the use of local plantings, and requires less fertilizer, water, maintenance and pest control that traditional landcape layouts. The design itself incorporates the smart -scaping of slope, plants, watering methods and soil. It is not just a design that can work with cactus or desert plantings. Any design style can blend with a xeriscape theme.
Here are some key elements:
Water Conservation
The goal is to reduce the amount of water that is applied, and maximize the use of natural precipitation. Group plants with similar water needs together.
Study the natural layout of the land and plant accordingly to reduce soil loss and erosion.

Is Your Granite Countertop Safe?
By
Melody Chan Graves, BBEC
You can spend a lot of time and effort preparing nutritious, quality meals to safeguard your family's health. But is the countertop on which you chop your organic vegetables actually causing you harm? For the past several years, granite countertops have come under scrutiny as a potential health threat because they can emit elevated levels of radioactive particles, which has been associated with increased risk for cancer.
Though public opinion has fluctuated over time about the seriousness of these risks, the fact is that granite, an igneous rock formed from cooling molten lava, can contain varying amounts of naturally occurring minerals with radioactive elements. Therefore, one piece of granite may show significant amounts of radiation, while another may be close to neutral, depending on where it was mined and the unique composition of elements that produce its color and texture.

The White Tara

Minnie Kansman
Minnie is a certified Master Feng Shui Consultant and Educator, and lives lightly on the land, honoring the power of Spirit in all things.
When I gaze at your statue I feel a peace well up inside and my heart begins to open wide. You remind me of Mother Mary and Kuan Yin and Mother Theresa all rolled up into one. I understand you were born from the tears of the great bodhisattva Avalokiteswara (whose human incarnation is the Dalai Lama). When Avalokiteswara cried, his falling tears formed a lake. And in this lake a beautiful white lotus grew and when it blossomed you rose from the middle of this flower.

Feng Shui and Your Handbag
By
Aroon Ajmera
The subject is common enough to be important: all females have handbags, and there are a lot of jokes about them. They have been around for centuries-originally, they were pouches carried around the waist by both sexes, which later became purses carried around by fashionable women. Now they serve a practical purpose to all women.
My first advice would be to project in your mind the bag that is most suitable to your purpose, i.e. if you have a purpose like a work-bag, going out to the cinema bag, have fun bag or a formal evening party bag; only then can you apply the appropriate Feng Shui principles.
The most important part of Feng Shui of your handbag is to improve the energy surrounding your bag. To do this:
· Choose the right colour
Each colour has a specific meaning and corresponds with the five elements. Feng Shui says that choosing the correct colour can improve your energy levels. Select the colour that is supportive of you, and not the one you need to avoid as per your own element based on your birth sign or horoscope.

Nature Notes
Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo has long been cultivated in China; some planted trees at temples are believed to be over 1,500 years old.
Ginkgos adapt well to the urban environment, tolerating pollution and confined soil spaces.and they rarely suffer disease.
Extreme examples of the Ginkgo's tenacity may be seen in Hiroshima, Japan, where six trees from the 1945 atom bomb explosion were among the few living things in the area to survive the blast.
While almost all other plants (and animals) in the area were destroyed, the ginkgos, though charred, survived and were soon healthy again. The trees are alive to this day.
The ginkgo leaf is the symbol of the Urasenke school of Japanese tea ceremony.
Ginkgo has been used to treat such conditions as asthma, inflammation, dizziness, memory problems, and circulatory problems throughout the brain and body.
Research has been concentrating on the possibility that Ginkgo biloba may be a helpful therapy for memory deficits occurring in Alzheimer's disease .

The new moon at 23 Taurus falls on the 13th. Pursuing activities that are compatible with the sign of the NM in the 2 weeks following, is traditionally a good course of action to follow. Earth sign, Taurus favors beauty, art & music, food & flowers, banks & money. Hence, a good time to plant gardens, balance checkbooks, paint/decorate and redo one's wardrobe.
The NM forms a friendly aspect with Saturn ( work, ambition, structures),a good indicator for job creation in government funded projects & infrastructure. Add an aspect from Uranus (sudden unexpected happenings, storms, Congress)and the signature might be a mixed blessing. The new jobs might be created by storm damage to property ( flooding looks problematic)... Congress created jobs/departments are coping with health care, immigration and financial issues. But, it bodes well for employment and real estate in later May, take advantage of this window as it won't be long lasting. Foreclosures will continue to increase, it's a buyers & employers market.
