Dear Conscious Design friends,
Welcome to a new year ! This issue brings you resources and information that will help guide the path ahead. You may notice that we have featured quite a few articles on the element of "time". Conscious Design is not only about the dynamics of space, but also considers the powerful effect of time.
Moon cycles, ocean tides, seasonal changes, women's cycles, planting cycles, annual cycles... The influence of time cycles is an integral part of us, yet the study of "time" is often one that causes raised eyebrows and disbelief. At Conscious Design, we ask that you keep an open mind, and you may find some jewels of wisdom. that can benefit your life.
Enjoy this issue and keep warm !

Making Room For Motivation, Manifesting and Miracles
by
Gwyn Gibbs
Professional Organizer
Every New Year we set out to re-vamp our SELVES. We dream of starting a new business, losing 10 lbs, re-connecting with friends, quitting smoking, creating an exercise program, buying something indulgent or devoting more time to our favorite charity. We are full of inspiration, full of ideas and full of enthusiasm to make a change that lasts.
Despite all of our best intentions and true desire to succeed at improving our lives in some way, we often fall short and feel disappointed. Not only do we have to imagine what we want, take action to get what we want and really feel that we already have what we want, but we MUST make room in our lives for what we want.
Clearing your clutter, freeing stuck energy and creating space for something new in your life is essential to making the changes that we desire no matter how small or how large those changes are to be. For example, if you are looking for a new relationship that honors your, in addition to imagining exactly what this person will be like, taking action by adding your amazing self onto internet dating services and feeling in your heart what it will be like to have this person. It is important that you ask yourself, "why do I have boxes of old love letters, photos of EXs and gifts from past relationships in my closet and under my bed?"
Those items may be quite sentimental, true, but if you are truly wanting a new relationship then-well-you have to make room for one.

Feng Shui for Doors
By
Jon Sandifer
If your front door is the gateway for Chi to enter your home, it is the mouth of your home. Sometimes we consider that we have 2 front doors. One that was designed originally by the architect but we may have a preference for using the side door or a kitchen door on a regular basis. I would consider that it is the door that the architect or builder designed and built. Having 2 front doors can often cause unnecessary arguing and bickering and dithering amongst the occupants.
Make sure that the name of your house or the number of the street is clearly visible for all to see. In the evening, is it well lit? The clearer the identification is, the better it is for your career, for your recognition and for ensuring an active social life. When guests visit you, it would be the perfect introduction if, on all levels, they felt uplifted by entering your home. On a sub-conscious level, even how you position the number of your house can have a subtle effect. For example, if the number of your house is 22, then consider positioning the second 2 slightly higher than the first, giving an "uplifting quality" as it is read.
For real support and protection, your front door needs to be solid. Glass panelling above the door or in the higher sections of the door are fine except in situations where Sha Chi (poisoned arrows) is being aimed at your front door. Front doors need to open inwards, allowing beneficial Chi to enter your home. The front door also needs to be larger than the back door encouraging Chi to enter through this aspect. The size of your door also needs to be proportional to the size of your home. If it is too big, you could lose opportunities and if it is too small, then the occupants are likely to argue and bicker. If a front door is made up of 2 panel sections, then they need to be identical in terms of colour and design. Irregularties can lead to confusion and arguments among the inhabitants.
Keep the door clean, freshly painted and the hinges and locks need to be regularly oiled. Imagine opening your front door for someone and it squeaks like the door on Dracula's castle! Deep down, it doesn't give your visitor a welcoming feeling! Make sure that your front door bell is easy to locate and works. I've often been surprised on consultations how frequently door bells do not work and there are even helpful little "post its" suggesting that you need to bang loudly! |

Seasonal
Colors of Winter
By
Diantha Harris,
ASID, FSII, MPIWOC
Each season of the year is associated with different colors either through systems like feng shui or through our personal associations. Feng shui winter colors are blue or black. For me personally I associate winter with white, red, black, gray and muted greens.
My own winter color palette has white as the main color. You can tell I live in the far north where it starts to snow November 1 and stops about May 1. Between these two dates the ground is generally covered in a blanket of white snow that sparkles in the sun, blows up into your face, and softens all sounds. White is associated with purity, with a clean slate, and new beginnings. It is light, airy, untouched, virginal. Looking out on a new snowfall you see possibilities and so it is with the color white.

Bau-biologie and Ecology
What is a Building (or Bau) Biologist?
A Bau-biologist is a researcher, architect, engineer, and doctor, all in one. He or she offers a preventive and healing medicine and a creative and unifying influence. A Bau-biologist is a worker in the global effort to solve the problems that come from modem ways of building and settlement planning-ways that disregard nature and human culture.
To work for a better and more beautiful world is an extraordinary, necessary, and satisfying job. The goals are:
- to regain order and harmony in our surroundings,
- to restore the balance between nature, our buildings, and ourselves
- to help build bridges for the realization of a world that is ecologically oriented.
This is a creative and harmonizing work, and as such, should be carried out without violent conflict. This goal calls for dynamic, idealistic, and creative people. It calls for people who appreciate deeper meanings and hold higher aspirations in life. It calls for people who seek growth and renewal. It calls for people who can stand apart from the masses and transcend the masses' craving for superficial pleasure.
A Bau-biologist must see the holistic relationship of all life. After all, it is unseeing human beings who cause the problem and who are, themselves, the problem. Only by seeing and applying the natural laws ourselves will we be able to lead others out of the labyrinth.
This information is in agreement with the Institute for Bau-Biologie® & Ecology (IBE). IBE is a non-profit organization that promotes the holistic study of human health in relation to the built environment and the natural environment. The principles of Bau-Biologie®, or Building Biology, are based on the concept that buildings can and should function in harmony with nature and human life. What is in store for you in 2010?
By
Aroon Ajmera
9 Star Astrology
(8 Earth Year)
What is in store for you in 2010?
If you think Feng Shui is simply about altering the space, you are taking into consideration only half the picture. Our relationship with time is equally important and that is why it is always necessary for a consultant to review the energy of time of the client before he embarks on the task of making recommendations.
We all have three resources. Time, money and energy within us. Energy within us is represented by our health. If we are unwell, we go to our doctor and get our energy rebalanced. If our money situation does not feel right, we go to our financial advisor or our accountant and make the necessary changes. But, how many of us know that time management is most valuable as we cannot get more of it. In our life span we have a limited time and therefore navigating well through the available time we have, will more often place us in the right place at the right time. That is the secret of successful people's lives.

Money Corner
Believe that you can do it
Before investing in real estate and becoming a millionaire, Alan Corey, author of A Million Bucks by 30, read as many biographies and autobiographies of millionaires as he could find. He says he was searching for a common characteristic that could help him in his own quest.
"What I found was they all had an incredible self-belief that they would be financially successful," he says. Corey says that embracing that level of self-confidence helped him get to the top.
At twenty-two, Alan Corey left his mom's basement in Atlanta and moved to New York City with one goal in mind: to become a millionaire by the time he was thirty. His parents and friends laughed, but six years later they were all celebrating his prosperous accomplishment-at a bar Corey owned in one of Brooklyn's hippest neighborhoods.

Dowsing
Dowsing Resources and Education
By
Renae Jensen
Wikipedia defines Dowsing as " a type of divination that is claimed to be able to locate ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, oil, gravesites and many other objects and materials, as well as so-called "currents of earth radiation", without the use of scientific apparatus. Dowsing is also known as divining (especially in reference to interpretation of results), doodlebugging (in the US), or (when searching specifically for water) water finding or water witching. " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowsing
"The Ancient art of dowsing has been practiced throughout millennia, although the names used to identify it may have changed in different cultures and eras, the techniques have not. ASD "http://www.dowsers.org/history.htm
I have been practicing dowsing since I was eighteen, many years ago ! Today, I use dowsing techniques in my space clearing, fengshui and design work, as well as for a healing and a resource to tap into universal knowledge. As advised by a fabulous healer and dowser in New Jersey : " One percent doubt and you are Out ! " As we are beginning to prove from a scientific basis, the invisible air is not just vacant space, but made up of matter that may hold memory, electromagnetic fields, and an unlimited flow of universal intelligence.
I recommend that you visit the site for the ASD, The American Society of Dowsers, an organization that was founded in 1961. The purpose of the ASD is to " disseminate knowledge of dowsing (water witching, discovery of lost articles or persons, and related para-psychological phenomena), development of its skills, and recognition for its achievements. One purpose of ASD is to assemble all manner of dowsing theories, ideas, techniques, applications, instrumentation, experiences, etc. for study and evaluation. The society issues the quarterly journal the American Dowser, which present a representative cross-section of this highly diverse material. "

4 Pillars Astrology ~ Why Tiger Woods Had Affairs
By
Mary Jane Kasliner,
AAS, BS, ACFSI, CP, RYT
http://5elementdesigns.com
If you're living on this planet then you know all about Tiger and his many Paramours. Let's see exactly what Tiger's 4 Pillars chart points out and how Elin's chart contributed to his indiscretions.
Tiger Woods was born on December 30, 1975 at 21:50
He is a yang metal person making him aggressive and powerful. In his current 10 year luck pillar branch, (what he is currently experiencing at the age of 34) is the Metal Rooster. This provides a much needed root for his day-master or self-element. This root makes him self-assured and steady allowing his career to progress. This root also brings about some friends, but others who are challenging for him right now. We definitely have seen some challenging individuals recently enter his life. Because this root (Metal Rooster) makes him stronger, he is able to acquire wealth, represented by the stem (yin wood) in his current 10 year luck pillar and his year pillar of the Rabbit. We most certainly have seen the excessive amount of money Tiger has made over the last several years.

Ask Conscious Design
Mountain Year
Dear Conscious Design,
Can you describe what the year ahead looks like?
Thank you,
MS, Kissimmee, FL
Dear MS
We asked expert Jon Sanifer to answer your question.
The 8 Mountain Year Heralds Change
In I Ching Astrology, 2010 is ruled by the 8 Mountain Star. Symbolically, its volcanic inheritance means change and revolution. But it also carries with it a deeper meaning: reflection and contemplation. The true spirit of this 8 Mountain Year is drawn from stillness, meditation and the quiet anticipation of change.
I Ching Astrology operates under the ancient Chinese Solar Calendar, which begins on 4 February 2010.
Every nine years this special year rotates into place. It is here to remind humanity to take a moment in its development to draw breath, listen, communicate and be still.
The 8 Mountain Year is drawn from the I Ching symbolism of knowledge. The Mountain is "owned" by the tough Youngest Son who likes to do things his way. By instinct, he defies the advice from his older siblings and parents.
Although the Mountain Chi is stubborn and defiant, an 8 Mountain Year heralds change, which can be both challenging and productive. All of our own Stars in I Ching Astrology will be transformed on some level this year by this change.
Change is always positive, if only with the wisdom of hindsight. The really scary thing is the unexpected. Like children, the night before their birthday, who cannot sleep because of the promise of unknown gifts, we cannot anticipate the actual roll of the Tao. But the only child that is disappointed is the one who is demanding and inflexible.
Breathe and sit awhile this year. It will be exciting!
Out of change comes new thinking. Past Mountain Years have been: 1929 with the great Wall Street crash, 1956 with the Suez Crisis, and more recently, 9/11 in 2001. No matter what happens in 2010, history shows us that we, individually and collectively, have the ability to adapt and survive the most challenging circumstances.

Nature Notes
Winter pansies
The word pansy is traced back to the French word pensee, meaning thought or remembrance.
One plant that is often overlooked for winter gardens is winter flowering pansies. Also called Ice pansies" they flower at exactly the opposite time as their sisters, the summer flowering varieties. The Yin and Yang of the Pansy world !
Great to accent your winter garden, Winter Pansies come in blue, yellow and white. Use your creativity and place them in decorative pots to create welcome in the entry, enhance the patio or along pathways and the drive, where their colors can provide uplift and joy.
One of the finest places to use winter pansies is where you plant spring flowering bulbs. They will not only provide color all winter; they will become a colorful, base-planting when the bulbs bloom in spring and then will help conceal the leaves of the bulbs as they die back in early summer.
Planting advice: Winter pansies are not demanding or fussy about their planting location. They grow equally well in full sun, part sun and shade or even almost total shade. Place plants about eight to twelve inches apart to create a beautiful color effect. Place them at the same depth as they were originally grown. Enjoy ! |

Jimmy Page
By
Jon Sandifer
Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times
Born January 9th, close to where I live in the UK in 1944 is legendary guitarist of the birds and Led Zeppelin fame, Jimmy Page. His enormous energy, drive, enthusiasm and spirit of adventure are easily mirrored in his pioneering 3 Thunder Birth Star.
Given his power and creativity with the guitar it comes as no surprise that he has a double dose of Thunder in his I Ching Astrology make up! He has the sensitive and also highly intense 3 Thunder Inner Star in his profile as well.
His third Star or Outer Star is the 5 T'ai Chi Star. People with this Star tend to give the impression that they are in control of any situation. In a band they give the impression that they control it. No wonder Lennon and McCartney had leadership issues as they both had this 5 T'ai Chi Outer Star.
