Every culture has its
own traditions to welcome the New Year.
My
grandmother used to open her front door and bang pots and pans in the threshold.
This was meant to drive away any evil spirits (negativity) in order to make way
for all of the good fortune anticipated in the coming year. Many cultures around
the world celebrate in the same way by ringing bells, blowing trumpets or shooting
fireworks.
There
are many stones that will provide protection for your home. One such stone is
Satin Spar. It can be found in various colors dependant upon where it originates.
Satin Spar is believed to have great protective qualities. It is often
cut egg shaped and in Egypt is called "Pharaoh's eggs", although it
is not known to which Pharaoh this refers. These can be placed near the front
door to protect the home from negativity. Cut into beads or drops it can be set
into earrings, or strung on a necklace.

Another
way to protect the home is to use Petrified Wood. Because of its hardness
and strange appearance, Petrified Wood has long been used as a protective
amulet. Made from trees that, millions of years ago were covered by mineral-rich
water, this fossil is also used for longevity. By placing Petrified Wood
outside at your front door, you can effectively set up a barrier that will deflect
negative energy and at the same time attract longevity to those that dwell within.
